Black History Month Speaker Encourages Students to be "Colour-Bold"
This week, CDS welcomed Steevens Audige, a police officer and former pastor to our Middle/Senior School Assembly.
Officer Audige shared his story about growing up as a black youth in Montreal to Haitian parents, his love of hockey, and his career path from youth worker, to pastor, to police officer. He shared stories of dealing with racism through his childhood to today, on and off the ice.
Officer Audige encouraged students to be "colour-bold" as opposed to "colour-blind", meaning to acknowledge colour and use it as a method to understand an individual, as opposed to simply ignoring it.
Our Chefs and Dining Hall staff also helped us celebrate Black History Month by creating African and Caribbean Island dishes to try, including Jamaican Jerk chicken, Moroccan Tagine, Nigerian Jollof Rice and Trinidadian Doubles!
