Pascal, Cayley, & Fermat Math Contests 2023

On February 22nd, a group of 52 Middle and Senior School students rose to the challenge of writing the annual Pascal, Cayley, and Fermat mathematics contests organized by the University of Waterloo.
Certificates of Distinction are earned by those who achieve in the top 25% of participants at CDS and the school medal is awarded to the top score at CDS (please note that all certificates and medals have a minimum cut-off score that is set by the CEMC).

Pascal Mathematics Contest (Grade 9 or below): This year, 12 Senior School students and 21 Middle School students participated in the Pascal contest.
  • Worldwide average score: 87.9 out of 150
  • Certificates of Distinction are awarded to:
    • Audrey Jiang (Grade 9), with a score of 104
    • Christina Karasmanis (grade 9), with a score of 106
    • Ray Wang (Grade 8), with a score of 116
    • Yuling Qian (Grade 8), with a score of 118
    • Kevin Zhai (Grade 7), with a score of 120
    • Kaitlyn Zhang (Grade 9), with a score of 121
  • A Certificate of Distinction and the school medal was earned by Dylan Matsui (Grade 8) with a score of 122.
Cayley Mathematics Contest (Gr. 10 or below): 12 Senior School students participated in the Cayley contest.
  • Worldwide average score: 91.4 out of 150
  • Certificate of Distinction:
    • Frank Fu (Grade 10), with a score of 128
  • A Certificate of Distinction, his name published on the Cayley Honour Roll, and the school medal was
    earned by Jason Liang (Grade 10), with a score of 138. Also, as a result of his outstanding achievement, in collaboration with the Canadian Mathematical Society and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Ottawa, Jason was invited to attend a prestigious Math Camp for a week this summer on campus at the University of Ottawa.
Fermat Contest (Gr. 11 or below): This year, 7 students participated in the Fermat contest.
  • Worldwide average score: 89.3 out of 150
  • Certificates of Distinction are awarded to:
    • Alex Wang (Grade 11), with a score of 103
    • Alex Musker (Grade 11), with a score of 105
    • Owen Gater (Grade 11), with a score of 110
    • Kevin Yang (Grade 11), with a score of 118
  • A Certificate of Distinction, his name published on the Fermat Honour Roll, and the School Medal was earned by: Stone Li (Grade 11), with a score of 120.
