Students Visit Stratford for CISDF

Reese Falkenberg '23
On April 17-19, the Senior Drama Class traveled to Stratford, Ont. to perform and participate in the Conference of Independent Schools Drama Festival (CISDF). It was three days of getting to know ourselves better, each other, and making new fun and talented friends.
We were involved in so many wonderful opportunities including going to see productions of Rent and King Lear. We got to speak to two members of the phenomenal cast of Rent, who gave us great advice about believing in ourselves and living life with kindness.

We enthusiastically participated in many workshops with industry professionals that work and train with actors at Stratford, my favourite being Clown. Others included musical dance, writing, movement, Shakespeare and puppetry, and accents and dialogs where we learned a London cockney accent!

Finally, we had the amazing opportunity to perform a piece the class wrote called 'Defined' on a Stratford stage, a place where actors and professionals have worked hard their whole lives to have a chance to perform on. We are so grateful for the opportunity and feedback we got from the adjudicators.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
