The Falling Leaves: Trees on the CDS campus

What a blessing for us that there are hundreds, possibly thousands of trees on the CDS campus! In fact, as part of our Junior School Outdoor Education program, our students are taking an inventory of the many different species of trees spread across our 100 acre campus.
Unfortunately, certain areas of our campus are not blessed with suitable soil conditions to support the health of certain species of mature hardwoods. That is certainly the case for some of our beautiful trees at the front of the Middle and Senior Schools and on our alumni commons. Many of those trees are suffering from the poor drainage the clay soil affords. It appears that many of these trees will have to be felled in the next few years, but rest assured we will be taking steps to ensure that our campus remains as green as possible!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
