Building Project Update

The CDS team certainly has been busy preparing the way for our exciting new capital project - our plan to build a Dining Hall and a new Senior School represents the largest building project in the School’s 42-year history!
I am pleased to highlight the fact that we have just passed the $6M mark of our $10M fundraising goal. A tremendous, heart-felt thanks to all those families who have lent their generous support already!

In order for the project to proceed, we still need every family to consider how they might participate in this important CDS community endeavor. Over the next while, there will be a number of events surrounding our campaign. In February, our Board of Directors' Building Committee will host an information evening for any and all CDS families with a connection to the construction industry. There will also be events later in February for all current and prospective donors to the Making Connections campaign. If you are interested in attending one of these events, please contact the Community Relations Department in order to learn more at 905.833.3640.

For those of you craving a few pragmatic facts about the project, here are some highlights:
  • design development of our 50,000 square foot building is 90% complete
  • the next architectural stages are blueprinting and tendering and they will be completed by the Spring of 2014
  • our formal Site Plan submission was filed with the Township of King just before the holidays
  • a list of FAQs as well as visuals and floor layouts is available at www.cds.on.ca/makingconnections
  • we are still on track to meet our originally planned construction start date in the Spring of 2014, pending further capital campaign success and final Board approval
Thank you for your ongoing support of The Country Day School!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
