Synchronized Skater to Compete in World Championships

Anna Cappuccitti, a Grade 10 student at The Country Day School, is the youngest skater on the 21-person Nexxice Senior National Synchronized Skating Team.
Anna was first invited to audition for the reigning Canadian Championship team a year ago at the age of 14 and has been skating with the Sr. Nexxice team (20 women and 1 man ranging in age from 17 to 24) ever since.

Last month, the Sr. Nexxice team claimed their eighth straight Canadian title on February 22nd and 23rd at the Skate Canada National Synchronized Skating Championships in Burnaby, B.C. The team posted 148.90 in the free skate to take Gold with 228.12 points, setting a new Canadian record in the process. Nexxice shattered their own Canadian record of 223.58, which they set at the 2009 World Championships where they captured Gold.

In order to accommodate her extensive outside training and travel, Anna is enrolled in the High Performance Phys-Ed Program at CDS, which offers individualized scheduling and customized coursework for competitive athletes who are training 12 hours or more outside of school each week. There are 10 students enrolled in the program this year.

In less than two weeks Anna departs for Courchevel, France where she and her teammates will train before defending their silver medal status at the 2014 World Synchronized Skating Championships in Courmayeur, Italy on April 4 and 5. We wish her well!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
