Rachel Glynn, Grade 11

Rachel Glynn is a Grade 11 student from Aurora and has been at The Country Day School since Grade 9. She has played on the Sr. Girls’ Soccer team for the past two years, and last year helped the team win both CAIS and CISAA Championships as the team’s top scorer.
According to her coach, Peter Milonas, “Rachel looks forward to another stellar run this season. Her team is hoping that she will continue to fill the net and step into a leadership role.”

Despite starting the season with a nagging injury which limited her ability to practice with her team, Rachel was able to make her mark on the team's home opener last Monday. Starting the game on the bench, Rachel patiently awaited her chance. At the half CDS trailed 1-0 to arch rival, Bishop Strachan School (BSS). Rachel injected life into her teammates, setting up the equalizer. Just minutes later she scored the winner, and added a late tally for good measure, winning the game for CDS 3-1.

Rachel is also very accomplished at Track & Field and represented CDS for the second time at the OFSAA Championships last spring, competing in both the Junior Girls’ 400m and 800m events. She placed 5th with a personal best time and new school record in the 400m and easily qualified for the winning heat in the 800m, placing 4th overall. Her OFSAA results qualified her for the Canadian Youth Championships held in Langley, B.C. last summer.

When she’s not competing for CDS, Rachel plays for the OYSL Mississauga Panthers and runs with the York Region Track Club. We wish her all the best this year in both sports!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
