The Jack Ride

On Saturday, May 24th, approximately 50 CDS faculty, students and families supported The Jack Project’s annual charity bike ride, The Jack Ride.

Some decided to ride the course, participating in the 50 km, 100 km or 125 km rides and others joined the “Spirit Bus” and cheered on the riders at the last kilometer of their ride. Our participation was to honour and remember the life of David Leeper, a Grade 11 student who tragically took his own life on February 3, 2014.

I chose to ride on May 24th with the hope that somewhere along the 125 km route, I would find a way to deal with my own grief. I rode most of all to honour the memory of David Leeper by raising awareness of the mental health issues that challenge our young people today.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
