Update: Making "Concrete" Connections

Have you peeked behind the green curtained fenceline lately? It might seem as though not much is going on back there, but in reality the site has been incredibly active.
Our summer work focussed on making the ground ready to build on, as well as the placement of all site services (storm sewers, power feeds, etc.). We also completed our newly paved sidewalks and driveways.

During September and October, the foundation walls were set in and all of the underground mechanical and electrical systems were laid down. During the last two weeks of October we are pouring the “slab” or concrete floor base of the entire building. Starting the first week of November, the steel structure of the building will begin to rise above that green fence and we will really start to see the scale of the building – a sight that I’m sure will fill us with great anticipation for opening day of this amazing new addition to CDS.

Although there is still a lot of work to do, money to raise, and a winter we have yet to endure, I am pleased to report that so far we are right on schedule to achieve an opening as early as possible in the Fall of 2015. Only 165 more lunches need to be made until we open our Dining Hall!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
