Recipe #9: The countdown is on!

Our school community has resoundingly expressed an interest in a having a robust lunch program made available. Every morning as you enter the campus, you can literally see our progress towards that long-anticipated goal.
For several months now, I have been penning this recipe series to reflect the careful consideration that has gone into designing both a first-rate building, and a matching first-rate food program. We have done our best to get you, what we hope, is the information to be confident that the nutritional needs of your child will be met on a daily basis.

The Dining Hall Recipe Series now resides on the CDS website at www.cds.on.ca/dininghallrecipes so you can read all nine installments. Additionally, we have created an extensive FAQ resource that will fill even more of the blanks. I am certain many parents will have specific questions still on their minds, and I want everyone to know that the School and our partners at the Original Food Company are at the ready to help you find answers that work for your family.

In the coming days, you will receive your re-enrolment packages for the 2015-16 school year. The package contains further information about our new lunch program. A key component of the program is the fact that it will be made available to all students at CDS, with the cost being contained within our regular tuition rates. We believe that a program that fosters healthy living attitudes, should be universally applied to all of our students. Furthermore, having all students participate allows the program to be more efficient as well as producing an equitable feel at a key communal point in the day.

We are convinced that the lunch and snack program we have designed provides tremendous value, and we are confident that a hot, healthy lunch program will add positively to the fabric of our community. I would like to thank the community for their positive role in helping to shape the future of our school both through conversation and your generous donations to the Making Connections campaign.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
