Building Series #6: Auction Week at CDS

This is “Auction week” at CDS and this has me in a somewhat reflective mood in terms of how our building project has progressed. Certainly the scale of the project is now unmistakable. The new building has an impressive physical presence and many who have had the opportunity to walk the inside of the building have commented on how the property is now shaping up to have much more of a campus feel.
Taking this project from inception to this point has required a tremendous amount of financial and operational oversight. We are building just over 50,000 square feet of new and replacement space. The project budget is $20 million and we set a goal of raising $10 million to fund the project through the Making Connections campaign. All donations, whether through the Annual Capital Fund, Gifts-in-Kind, Auction or Major Gifts directly fund this exciting new addition to the School. And, even though we are building new space, we are not planning to increase student enrollment.

Speaking of space, there certainly is a lot more of it in the new building. Not only is there a proper space for all students to eat lunch, but there is also ample space for learning activities both inside and outside of the classroom. The new building is literally sprinkled with nooks and crannies, large and small that can accommodate groups of students or individuals who are looking for a place to read, write, study, dialogue or simply dream (while awake of course)!

Watch out for the exterior brick to begin to go up this week starting on the rear of the building as well as the installation of the massive skylight down the middle of the building.

I look forward to seeing you at Auction tomorrow night!

Land Acknowledgment

CDS wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. For thousands of years, these have been the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We also recognize the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples who also shared this land.  CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for these lands and waters for future generations.
