Forty-seven years ago, the founders of The Country Day School, along with many other original CDS families, provided the spark that helped ignite the vision to build a school. That same spark has been kept alive by the collective efforts of all who have supported our school since then, ensuring its ongoing growth and continued improvement. We remain incredibly grateful for those members of our community who have supported us in the past, present and future.

The CDS story continues to unfold at this exciting point in our history. Now, all of us – CDS parents, students, alumni, friends and staff – have become the stewards of the magic that is CDS; that spirit, that vision, that important sense of balance, in this place where all are welcome. Together we will move CDS forward.

Now we have the opportunity to ignite the vision of the Building Magic Campaign. Please consider giving generously to the campaign today. There are many ways to make a contribution, and the impact over the course of our three-to-four year campaign will have tremendous significance for years to come.

Below are the four primary ways that CDS will be raising the funds needed to achieve our $7 million goal for the new Junior School wing and rejuvenation project:

Leadership Gifts or Pledged Gifts
Building Fund
Annual Gifts
Auction Support

Leadership Gifts

Leadership Gifts, or gifts that are pledged over four-to-five years are an important part of any capital campaign like the Building Magic Campaign.  While it is extraordinary that we expect to raise approximately 30% of the campaign goal from smaller gifts through the Auction, Annual Gifts and Building Fund, this still leaves a significant portion of the campaign that is funded through the commitment of our community to multi-year pledges. We encourage all families to meet with John Liggett and Brent Johnston to discuss the potential for a leadership gift.

For many families, Leadership gifts or Pledged Gifts, are a way to make a commitment that can be larger, because it is spread over multiple years, and the charitable tax benefits can have a longer impact.

The Country Day School meets and works with families to structure any gift of $25,000 or more to ensure that the timing and structure of the gift works best for our families.

Leadership gifts of $25,000 or more will be recognized on the Building Magic Campaign donor recognition wall and gifts of $100,000 or more are recognized with the potential to have a named space at CDS. Click here to see what spaces have been identified in the project. All naming is mutually agreed upon and must conform to the CDS Policy on Naming.

Benefit:
  • Recognition for our leadership families through donor recognition or named space eligibility
  • Tax Receipt for the full amount which can result in tax savings reducing your actual cost of donation. (example: A gift of $100,000 - $40,119 Total Tax credit = Actual Cost of donation of only $59,881)

Building Fund

The Building Fund is a request during enrollment for an annual donation of $1,000 per child from our current families in support of capital improvements of the School. For the next few years, the Building Fund will be directed to the Building Magic Campaign. This is one way to ensure everyone in our community helps support the projects that benefit our whole school.

While tuition covers the day-to-day operations, the Building Fund is a way for the School to continue to improve our facilities. Each year the School undertakes capital improvements to ensure that the facilities remain top notch. During campaign years, we direct this Building Fund to help support the addition of facilities like the new Junior School Wing and rejuvenation. This year the Building Fund will support our Building Magic Campaign.

Benefit:
  • Tax Receipt for the full amount which can result in tax savings reducing your actual cost of donation. (example: A gift of $1000 - 417.04 Total Tax credit = Actual Cost of donation of only $582.96)
  • Gifts of $1000 or more recognized with membership in the Eversley Circle

Annual Gifts

Annual gifts from our past parents, alumni, parents' friends and grandparents are a way to support CDS and the annual project that is our area of greatest need. During the Building Magic Campaign, our Annual Fund will support both the campaign and our Endowment for Financial Aid. Donors have the opportunity to support the area that is most meaningful to them. In order to support the Building Magic Campaign, donors can utilize this form in order to make their gift. If you wish to make a gift to endowment, please fill out our endowment form.

Auction

The Annual CDS Auction is the largest social and fundraising event of the year. Each year the Auction raises money for community projects that enhance our School. In the last few years, the Auction has provided the funds for our spectator seating, our outdoor scoreboards, our traffic light and most recently the renovation to our grade 3, 4, 5 and 6 hallway in the Junior School.

The Auction raises money through sponsorship, advertising, raffles, tickets, silent and live auction items, and other small fun participation games. Families are asked to donate items for auction, advertise in our event program, purchase event tickets, sponsor a table at a variety of levels, and generally have a great time.

To support the campaign, the Auction will provide its proceeds to the Building Magic Campaign this year.

Benefit:
  • Profile and Recognition for our leadership families
  • Corporate sponsorship can have marketing and promotion advantages
  • Advertising opportunities to an exclusive community
  • Partial Tax receipt. Depending on the type of participation, a portion of a gift may be eligible to be receipted, according to CRA regulations, but normally the tax benefit will be less than an outright gift. (Event tickets are not receipted)
