Junior School Buddy Benches

Tanysa, Grade 6
Welcome back to school, CDS. My name is Tanysa and I am in Grade 6. I am going to talk to you about being a new student in the Junior School. I came to this school in Grade 4 and remember exactly how it feels to be the new student.

Yes, I was nervous the first few days. But it didn’t take me long before the other students included me and made me feel welcome! Now it’s like I’ve been here forever.

When I was in Grade 4, I brought Mrs. Wildberger an article from a magazine that described a way to help new students feel welcome, as I did.
Mrs. Wildberger promised to investigate and do some research, and she kept her promise! Today I am happy to tell you about the new Junior School Buddy Benches!

These two new Buddy Benches have been placed in our Primary Yard. It’s a way to expand friendships, and a good place for a new student to go, but also a good place for students who’ve been at CDS for a long time and are just seeking a friend. If you are in SK, Grade 1, 2, 3 or 4 and you’re in the playground walking around and you see someone at the Buddy Bench, go over and ask them if they want to play!

I am so happy these Buddy Benches are in our playground and I encourage everyone to use them!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
