Portrait of a CDS Graduate

As members of the Class of 2014 embark on their next adventure this fall, we have put the final touches on a series of video vignettes that offer a glimpse into what it means to be a CDS Graduate.

While we only had the opportunity to interview a handful of our new alumni, each told a different, yet in some ways similar story. Underlying themes included strong sense of community, caring faculty members, a passion for the arts and gratitude and pride in their school.

Alessandra Pozzuoli (attending Rhode Island School of Design) speaks about her passion for visual arts and shares her motivations for creating her final Grade 12 art projects. Josh Wilson (attending University of King’s College) talks about his involvement in community service and social justice at CDS and how his involvement on Me to We trips (both with the CDS and outside of school) have changed the way he views the world. James Oliver (University of Toronto) speaks to his experience on various athletic teams and the pride he felt in being chosen to represent his class as Valedictorian. Sara Smith (Mount Allison University) shares her experience in the music and drama programs and the faculty involvement she benefitted from. Lukas Weese (University of Toronto) talks about his involvement in Public Speaking and Debating, as well as drama and sports commentating. Each one of these students left their mark on CDS and articulates the impact CDS had on their own lives as well.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
