Ms. Celia Bland
Director of Senior School
Celia Bland has had an extensive teaching career. She began teaching in social priority neighbourhoods in the heart of London, England, where she was named a Teacher of Exemplary Standards and was a member of the Management Team for the Teachers’ Centre.
Throughout her years of teaching, Ms. Bland has been a mentor to many teachers in their first few years as educators. During her summers in London, she ran the Summer Reading Scheme, an extended English programme, designed to help students retain their language skills over the long summer break. She then became the youngest Vice Principal ever appointed by Hertfordshire County Council, England, where she was also fast-tracked on to the Principal’s Programme at Cambridge, and was a member of the Board of Governors. Moving to Canada in 1990 to explore adventure and travel, Ms. Bland began teaching English and Social Sciences.
After taking a few years to be home with her own family in their early years, she joined the faculty of The Country Day School; firstly in the Junior School, teaching English and Social Sciences, helping to establish the newly-created rotary program. Throughout her teaching career, Ms. Bland has directed drama productions in every school in which she has taught and was responsible for the first full production in the Performing Arts Centre in 2002. She has also coached Track and Field, as well as Cross Country, and she herself has a passion for running. She has also been highly involved in many faculty working groups, helping to lead the School forward into the next phase of its life and served on the CAIS Accreditation Visiting Committee in 2013. Ms. Bland served as Director of Middle School for part of both school years 2012-13 and 2013-14 and is currently the Director of Senior School. She also teaches English and is the very proud mum of two CDS alumni.
