Mr. Brent Johnston
Executive Director of Advancement
Brent Johnston has over 20 years of experience in Advancement. Starting his career in small, community-based, non-profit organizations, he moved to the University of Toronto prior to the launch of the Great Minds Campaign, one that reached a Canadian record-setting $1 billion milestone.
During his time at U of T, he was responsible for the management of the University’s premier donor recognition society, the young alumni programme, and advancement’s signature events. In 2001, he led the development and implementation of the University’s 175th Anniversary Events. Following the successful conclusion of the campaign, Mr. Johnston became President of the Ontario Liberal Fund. He returned to educational fundraising in 2007 when he joined McGill University as Director of Development, Ontario Regional Office.
In 2008, Mr. Johnston joined The Country Day School community both as a new parent to the School (Mackenzie, Class of 2017 and Ainsley, Class of 2021) and as the Executive Director of Advancement where he provides leadership in areas of development, alumni relations and fundraising. A graduate of the University of Toronto, he has served on many volunteer Boards and has been or is a member of CAISAP (Canadian Association of Independent School Advancement Professionals), CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education), and AFP (Association of Fundraising Professionals). He has received the University of Toronto’s Arbor Award for outstanding personal service to the University and the University of Toronto at Mississauga’s Paul W. Fox award for distinguished voluntary service.
