Pink Shirts for Charity

Melissa Rutledge & Geneva Winterink
The Inclusivity Club worked throughout the month of February to prepare for Pink Shirt Day on February 28th. Since Pink Shirt Day symbolizes an important stand against bullying, the club embarked on an ambitious project to create and produce our very own Pink Shirt designs to sell as a fundraiser for Friends of Ruby, an organization dedicated to the well-being of 2SLGTBQIA+ youth through mental health services, social services, and housing.
With two original designs created by Angelina Cai ‘25, the club spent several lunch periods in the makerspace creating the shirts under the instruction and guidance of Ms. Weening in the Makerspace. Inclusivity Club leader, Alex Musker ‘24, quickly became an expert on the T-Shirt press, while Meghan Weinroth ‘26 patiently guided the group with her expert skills at weeding T-shirt transfers.

The sale was a huge success! The Inclusivity Club sold every T-shirt in the days leading up to Pink Shirt Day and collected a sizable donation for Friends of Ruby. It was wonderful to see our in-house design worn by members of the CDS community.  A special thanks to Ms. Weening for all of her time and expertise to make this project happen.

This project helped the Inclusivity Club to spread the positive messages that are core to the group: to be kind to one another, and to lift each other up.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
