Support CDS Robotics this Weekend!

Joshua Simmonds
Team 4951 - The CDS Cyclones - is competing in the Provincial Championships over the next three days. Come cheer them on at The International Centre (6900 Airport Road) Hall #5 in Mississauga! Admission and parking are free, and children of all ages are welcome. There is even a Lego Robotics booth available for our younger robot enthusiasts!

Our team colour is navy blue, so wear blue and/or your CDS gear and bring your school spirit! Other teams take 60+ students and fans to each tournament. We are a small team (around 12 students), so we would welcome as many students, parents, teachers, and fans as possible to come cheer us on.
Tentative match schedules are updated live on Our CDS Cyclones page on The Blue Alliance website. Scores will also be posted here after each match. Matches will run throughout the tournament as follows:
  • Qualifying matches will run Thursday (9:00 am to 5:30 pm) and Friday (9:00 am to 4:30 pm)
  • We typically have a match every 60-90 minutes. We are in the Technology Division.
  • Playoff matches take place on Saturday, April 6th - from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm, with finals at 3:00 pm.
  • Our role in the playoffs will depend on our results in the qualifying matches, as well as Alliance Selection which takes place at 8:30 am on Saturday.
  • For an explanation of how the Robotics game works this year, watch the Crescendo game animation video published by FRC

This season we celebrated strong playoff finishes in both of our qualifying tournaments. “On top of our high finish on the leaderboard and an overall high score of the tournament, we also received the Judges’ Award, an award which is received by a team who impresses the judges with a unique feature and positive aspects of the team.” Jesse Novik ‘24, Senior Robotics Coordinator. Our strong results, combined with the award points, helped our team to qualify for Provincials.

Our team is very excited to attend Provincial Championships for the third year in a row. We look forward to celebrating all that our robotics students have accomplished and all the hard work that went into this season. We are especially thankful for our families, partners, fans, the CDS Dining Hall team, and everyone who makes this program happen.

Full event details, including the schedule for the tournament, can be found at this website: 2024 Ontario Provincial Championships details. If you are unable to cheer us on in person, but would still like to show your support, you can watch the entire tournament live streamed on FIRSTCanada’s Twitch Channel. Look for the Team #4951 in the Technology Division and cheer us on from home!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
