Annie Dearden
Annie Dearden joined CDS in 2016 where she initially taught Senior Kindergarten and Grade 3 before finding her niche in the Junior School Outdoor Education department. She grew up in the Waterloo region where she attended St. John’s Kilmarnock School from Grades 6-12, and holds a BA (Hons.) in Politics and World Religions from Queen’s University and a Masters of Teaching from OISE. Her master’s research was on place-based learning, specifically how to help students connect with and find their role in community.
Ms. Dearden has taught health education in Central America with Queen’s Health Outreach, a completely student run not-for-profit organization, and has spent time at alternative schools, inner-city schools, and outdoor education centres throughout the GTA. She is passionate about environmental education, meaningful integration of technology in our classrooms, and social justice.

Land Acknowledgment
The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
