CDS General Store

The General Store is staffed by a team comprised of a Store Manager, a Store Assistant Manager and an enthusiastic group of parent volunteers. During regular store hours, students and their families may purchase uniforms, stationery and a whole host of sundry items throughout the school year.

All store proceeds are returned to the School through the CDS Parent Association.

The General Store will be open on Tuesday, September 5th (orientation morning) and then regular open hours will resume from Wednesday, September 6th on the following days:
  • Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8:30am to 1pm
  • Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 12pm to 4:15pm (or 3:15pm when there are no extra-curricular activities)
Families who have questions, wish to book an appointment, or are in need of assistance finding the right item or size should contact Stephanie Steinmann, General Store Manager, at (905) 833-6081 or e-mail at generalstore@cds.on.ca.

Questions

List of 10 frequently asked questions.

  • Can I book an appointment for a uniform fitting?

Uniform appointments are reserved for students entering Grade 1, Grade 7 and for all new students. Eligible families will receive e-mailed instructions on how to book an appointment.
  • When can I pick up my online order?

Middle and Senior School students may collect online orders, return and exchange items from the store during open hours. Online orders for Junior School students will be delivered to their classrooms and returns may be handed in to the Junior School office. Parents may arrange curbside pick up by appointment with the General Store.
  • What is the Store’s return policy?

Items must be unworn with tags on and returned within 30 days of purchase. You will have the option for a refund on your credit card or on your sundry account.
  • What are the hours of operation during the school year?

    Monday, Wednesday and Friday
    8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

    Tuesday and Thursday
    12:00 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.*

*On days with no after school activities, the Store will close at 3:15 p.m.

The General Store and the online store will close for the summer on May 27th. The online store will reopen on August 15th, and the General Store will open for new family appointments from the middle of August.
  • How many uniform items should I maintain in my child's wardrobe?

Please refer to the Uniform Checklists. Here is some information to help guide your choices.

    Socks & Shirts:
Most parents will buy 5 pairs of socks and 5 shirts (a combination of oxford shirts, polo shirts or turtlenecks depending on grade) so that they have one for each day of the week.

    Pants, Kilts and Tunics:
Most boys start with 2 pairs of pants, and girls with one kilt or tunic, and if they like to have the option, one pair of pants.

    Warmer Wear:
Next, think about whether your child tends to be hot or cold—will they really need that sweater or vest to keep them warm? We recommend waiting until the cooler weather sets in before buying optional items such as these until the need arises.
  • How do I pay for my purchases?

Initial uniform purchases are paid for at time of purchase. Student accounts are opened as requested. During the current situation, our strong preference is for payment to be made with credit or debit card rather than cash. The General Store accepts American Express, Visa and Mastercard.
  • What if my child grows over the summer and the uniform I purchased in May no longer fits?

The General Store will gladly exchange or return any unworn items. Please leave the tags on all clothing until your child is ready to wear it. This will make the exchange as simple as possible.
  • Is it possible to purchase gently used uniform items?

We hope to hold the pre-owned clothing sale before school opens in September. Visit www.cds.on.ca/preowned for details on upcoming sales.
  • How will I find out what sort of stationery needs my child will have?

Stationery shopping lists are available for Grades 2-8 (see top right). For your convenience, the General Store has packaged the requirements for Grades 2-8 plus Art for Grades 4-6, into kits - the price varies by grade. New families may purchase their kit at the time of the uniform fitting appointment, subject to availability. Current families can order kits online each year, from mid-April to late May.
  • Is there a stationery kit list for Kindergarten or Grade 1?

Kindergarten and Grade 1 stationery supplies are provided by the teacher and are billed to the Sundry Account through the Business Office.

Land Acknowledgment

CDS wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. For thousands of years, these have been the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We also recognize the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples who also shared this land.  CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for these lands and waters for future generations.
