Once again, Temagami Amazed

By Heather Castellan
From September 16-20, 23 intrepid explorers launched from Camp Temagami on our annual Canoe trip. For many, this trip was part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award, fulfilling their Adventurous Journey components. They spent four days in the backcountry wilderness: learning how to canoe, select firewood, chop, saw and start fires, all so that they could make some amazing meals.
The three groups headed in different directions on a calm, sunny and warm day. Two of the groups crossed paths in Portage Bay, taking on the portage and route in different directions, including a hike up High Rock, where they had a full view of the lake from one of the highest vantage points in the area.

The third group traversed several portages into Skunk and Gull Lakes, known for their fishing and ended with a Hike up to an abandoned lumber camp from around the 1940s before returning to camp. All three groups had a wonderful experience.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
