CDS Robotics Team Competes in FRC Qualifier this Weekend

This weekend, the Senior School Robotics Team is headed to our first tournament of the new season! Our team is very excited and has been working hard to prepare the robot for the upcoming competition. Each team has an assigned ID number - our team is Team 4951 - CDS Cyclones! Where we usually have to travel further afield, this time we will be competing in Newmarket - and encourage community members to come watch throughout the weekend!
Each year, FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) creates a new game, and robotics teams around the world have six weeks to build a working robot to accomplish a series of tasks. This year, the game is called CHARGED UP and is presented by Haas. The tasks this year focus on two competing alliances bringing energy to their community by retrieving cones and cubes and scoring them in a grid. More info on the game can be found here.

At the competition, robots are placed into ‘Alliances’ - groups of three robots trying to complete the tasks and score higher than the opposing Alliance. We will be grouped in random Alliances throughout the day, competing alongside (and against) robots from 33 other Robotics teams from across Ontario.

Qualifying matches will run throughout the day on both Saturday and Sunday. Our matches will run between 11:30 am to 7 pm on Saturday, March 4th, and between 9:30 am and 12:45 pm on Sunday, March 5th. Our matches are spread throughout this time, but typically we have a match every 30-45 minutes. Depending on our results in the qualifying matches, we may have some playoff matches between 2:30 pm and 5:30 pm on Sunday, March 5th.

Come cheer us on! We would love for you to follow our progress in any of the following ways:
  • Come see us in person at the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex (100 Eagle Street West, Newmarket). We are in Arena 1. Wear your CDS gear and bring your school spirit! Please note that FIRST Robotics Competition requires that all attendees wear masks at this event.
  • You can follow our progress online at https://www.thebluealliance.com/team/4951 for regular updates on match schedules and scores.
  • You can watch the entire tournament live streamed at https://www.twitch.tv/firstcanada - look for the robot 4951 and cheer us on from home!
Good luck to our robotics team, and Go Cyclones!

Land Acknowledgment

CDS wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. For thousands of years, these have been the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We also recognize the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples who also shared this land.  CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for these lands and waters for future generations.
