Senior Students Treated to Juno Nominated Jazz Vocalist

Meghan Weinroth '26
Last Friday, CDS Senior Vocal students received a visit from Juno nominated Jazz vocalist Heather Bambrick (@heatherbambrick). Heather is considered one of Canada’s top Jazz vocalists and has been described as “Ella Fitzgerald meets Carol Burnett at a Newfoundland kitchen party”. She has worked with amazing musicians such as Phil Nimmons, Gene DiNovi, and Ian Shaw. She has received multiple East Coast Music Award nominations for Jazz Recording of the Year, as well as a Juno Award nomination for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year for her album You’ll Never Know.
Aside from being a jazz vocalist, Heather is a voice actor and a radio broadcaster. Mom Tiger in Daniel Tiger’s Neighbourhood and Koki in Wild Kratts are some of her most notable roles. She hosts and produces shows on JAZZ.FM91, and is also the co-founder of JAZZCAST, a 24-hour online Jazz station. In addition to this, Heather is an advocate for music education in Canada.

The Senior Vocal students were excited to have this amazing vocal workshop experience with Heather! They worked on principle vocal jazz concepts, learned how to improvise, and sang along with her!

Catch one of Heather's shows this fall or find out more information at www.heatherbambrick.ca.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
