JS Celebrates Remembrance Day with Beautiful Poppy & Peace Videos

In the Junior School this week, students helped create a community poppy by each placing a red or black stone in the formation of a poppy now on display in Burns Family Hall.

JS Remembrance Day 2023: Hand in Peace Video
This community poppy serves as a reminder that every person in this school plays a part in bringing Peace to our World. Peace begins with each one of us by every conversation we have, every word we speak and every act of kindness we show. Our community poppy is a symbol of both Remembrance and hope for a peaceful future. We all have a hand in contributing to a peaceful school and a peaceful world.

Today and always, we promise to remember.

The Junior School learned that the wars of yesterday and today can hurt those who are off at war, those military families at home, and even the youngest of children.

Building a world without war will continue to be our greatest dream. It is the job of each and every one of us to be peaceful in our own way. Every little act of peace is important. Imagine a World where all the people are living life in peace. Imagine a World where we all live as one.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
