School Spirit soars at SS Winter Game Day!

On Monday, February 2, the Senior School travelled to the Zancor Centre for our annual Winter Gameday. Both rinks were filled with energy as students cheered on both hockey teams in a display of true school spirit. The undefeated Varsity Girls faced Greenwood College, while the Varsity Boys took on local rival, Villanova College.
Leading up to the games, students prepared during assembly by practicing chants and cheers, and spent their lunch hours creating posters to support our athletes. The Social Justice Club also hosted a bake sale, raising funds for Their Opportunity, a charity dedicated to providing sports access for children who might not otherwise have the chance to participate.

Both games delivered plenty of excitement. The Senior Girls secured an impressive 6–3 victory over the Greenwood Grizzlies, solidifying their first-place standing in the league. The Senior Boys battled hard in a highly competitive matchup, ultimately falling 4–2 to Villanova.

The day was defined by school spirit, fun, and community pride. Reflecting on the event, Ms. Winterink shared, “It was incredible to see our community come together in support of our teams. Events like Gameday highlight the power of athletics at CDS—not just in competition, but in building connection and a true sense of community.” With playoffs approaching after the Family Day weekend, the energy and support from Gameday have set the perfect tone for the weeks ahead.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
