Last week, the senior vocal class, the new design class, and the Grade 10, 11/12 drama classes had the fantastic opportunity to see the musical & Juliet at the Royal Alex Theatre in Toronto. When we arrived at the theatre, we were welcomed with a tour of the theatre. We learned about its history and even heard about the ghosts that haunt it.
After our lovely tour, it was time to see the show, which was spectacular from the costumes and set to the wonderful acting, choreography and vocals. It was an all-around great time. A retelling of the classic Romeo and Juliet story, the show cycled between many emotions; it went from upbeat classic pop tunes to more emotional and powerful ballads as we followed Juliet through her journey.
After a truly wonderful show, we were then escorted to meet and talk with some of the actors. We learned about how they stay in character and their personal favourite moments in the show. I personally loved this show. As a student who takes all three classes, I was mesmerized by the costume and set design, the mix of modern and Shakespearean inspirations, the extremely powerful vocals from everyone on stage, and last but definitely not least, the acting! This entire show made me feel like I was at a two-hour-long pop-rock concert, and I loved every second.
Thank you to the teachers for organizing such an amazing opportunity.
The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
Founded in 1972, The Country Day School is a co-educational private school offering programs in JK-12 and located on 100 acres north of Toronto in King.
