Members of the CDS Math Team are busy preparing for the Canadian Team Math Competition at the University of Waterloo to be held on Wednesday, April 8th. This is the first time in over a decade that CDS has been invited to attend the marquee event at the University of Waterloo Campus, where they will compete against the brightest mathematicians in Canada.

Last Friday, members of the CDS math team had a guest speaker visit. The guest speaker was Mr. Jeff Anderson, Senior Resource Specialist for the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC). Mr. Anderson and his team are responsible for designing math questions for all the University of Waterloo competitions.

During the 75-minute session, the team learned about specific problem-solving and teamwork strategies for team and relay-style questions. They also learned about how math is taught in other countries and gained some insight into the field of actuarial science.

Good luck to the team at next week's Canadian Team Math Contest!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
