Mathematics Focus in the Junior School

On Wednesday, May 13th, 85 students in the Junior School, from Grades 3-6, took part in the annual Mathematica Contests. These contests are a series of Canadian math contests for Grades 3-9 that have been running since 1990. The contests are age-appropriate and are an excellent way to promote problem-solving skills. The contest organizers provide practice tests, many with detailed answers, which are used to help prepare students for the contests.
At CDS, the Junior School has been participating in the Mathematica contests since the early 1990's! This year the contest organizers switched from a paper and pencil format to an online version and our students were quick to adapt to the change. The students were excited, nervous and up for the challenge. There was a lot of  “mathematical energy” in the Junior School throughout the day!

We are hoping to receive the results in the coming weeks. If all goes according to plan, students will receive their results at our final assembly on June 8th!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
