The Oh Canada project

By Andrea Donais
We are excited to share a special Junior School music initiative for our Grades 4, 5, and 6 students: the O Canada Recording Project.

On Tuesday, June 2, students will professionally record O Canada in both English and French during their choir classes. Recordings from each grade will later be layered, mixed, and mastered to create polished final versions that will be used for Junior School morning announcements and assemblies for years to come.
This project is designed to provide students with an authentic and memorable recording experience while creating something meaningful and lasting for our school community. We are thrilled to welcome professional sound engineer and producer Mark Camilleri to CDS to lead the recording sessions. Mark brings extensive experience in theatre, concerts, television, and music production, and works wonderfully with students.

Because each session relies on the full sound of the ensemble, student attendance is especially important on recording day. We kindly ask families to make every effort to ensure students are present and ready to participate in this exciting opportunity on June 2.

We are very much looking forward to this special experience and cannot wait for students to hear the final recordings!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
