Grade 5's are fitted for musical success
The purpose of the Grade 5 Instrument Clinic Day is to provide our students with the opportunity to work with instrument-specific clinicians as they take their first steps on their new instruments.
The clinic will intentionally take place in September, as close as possible to when students first receive their instruments. This timing allows clinicians to establish correct technique, posture, embouchure, instrument care, and playing habits before incorrect habits have an opportunity to develop. By providing specialized instruction at the very beginning of their instrumental experience, students can start the year with greater confidence and a strong foundation upon which to build throughout the Grade 5 music program.

The clinicians will focus on establishing strong fundamentals from the very beginning, including:
- Proper assembly and care of the instrument
- Correct handling and playing position
- Proper posture and embouchure
- Producing a characteristic first sound
- Basic instrument-specific techniques and good practice habits
Our goal is to give each student a positive and successful introduction to their instrument while establishing proper technique and good habits that will provide a strong foundation for their musical development throughout the year.
Land Acknowledgment
The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
