Animal Advocacy Club Brings Feather-Friendly Decals to CDS

Our Animal Advocacy Club is on a mission to protect campus wildlife! Last week, seven members visited our Grade 2 classes to share their ongoing projects—from building a winter hedge habitat in the Back 40 to advocating for feather-friendly window decals across the school.

Club Coordinator Vanessa Wang helped the younger students understand the importance of bird safety with a simple analogy: while humans see through windows, birds see a reflection of the outdoors, tricking them into thinking it’s safe to fly forward.

The presentation was a huge success. Following the visit, our inspired Grade 2s took immediate action by creating their own colorful dot art to make their parking-lot-facing windows safe for local birds!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
