Battle of the North Update!

By Geneva Winterink
The Battle of the North with HTS continued this week, and what a battle it has been! Heading into the week, CDS was trailing 2–1, but the Cyclones have fought their way back, and we are now tied at three games each! It hasn’t felt much like the Battle of the North with the incredible weather we’ve had for our outdoor games, but the competition has been heating up all week!
On Monday, our U16 Boys Soccer team travelled to HTS and delivered an impressive 2–0 victory. The boys played with passion, determination, and confidence, earning a crucial win to tie the Battle of the North at two games each.

Tuesday brought another exciting matchup as our U13 Boys Soccer team travelled to HTS for the second time this season. After previously defeating HTS 2–1, the Cyclones knew they were in for another tough contest. Both teams battled hard, but this time the game ended in a 2–2 draw, keeping the Northern Cup standings tied at 2–2. Meanwhile, our U14 Boys Volleyball team went to battle in a thrilling five-set match. The boys fought back and forth with HTS, but unfortunately fell 15–7 in the deciding set.

On Wednesday, our U16 Boys Volleyball team travelled to HTS knowing they needed a win to keep CDS in the hunt for the trophy, and they did not disappoint! The boys took down the home team in three straight sets, delivering a huge win and bringing the Northern Cup standings to an even 3–3!

Now, it all comes down to one final game!

Mark your calendars for Monday at 3:30 p.m., when our Senior Boys Volleyball team hosts HTS in the Middle School gym. The winner takes home the very first Northern Cup! The trophy will be presented following the final set, and we need our Cyclone community out in full force to cheer on the boys as they look to bring home the hardware.
One final game. One trophy.

Let's pack the gym, bring the noise, and show HTS what Cyclone pride is all about! Go Cyclones!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
