A Moving Final JS Assembly

Monday’s final Junior School Assembly embodied a full range of emotions from truly uplifting and celebratory, to heartfelt and moving. We celebrated Ms. Liane Cooke’s 23 incredible years in the Junior School. We thanked our Dining Hall staff for working so hard to feed us throughout the year, and our Pathways to People Grade 6 team who led us by example this year.

The results of the Mathematica contest were outstanding (read full story below). Congrats to all 86 students in Grade 3-6 who participated! The winners of this year’s Grade 5 Agenda Cover Art contests were announced by Ms. K: Front cover is by Lincy Li and Back Cover is Harvey Wu, kudos to all who submitted their artwork. And our May class trip highlights were shared in fun video formats – what a way to wind down the year with our friends. After a fun and hilarious house activity led by Mr. Bartle, we learned that the winner of the Rogers Shield this year is Eberts House!

Mrs. Wildberger concluded the final assembly of the school year, and her last as Director of Junior School, by reflecting on the school’s history, recognizing the five Directors who preceded her before her appointment in 2010. She then shared the heartfelt letter she has written for the incoming Director of Junior School, Ms. Stevens, to read upon her arrival this summer. In it, Mrs. Wildberger offered her warmest wishes as she passes the torch, and the Junior School she holds so dear, into Ms. Stevens’ capable hands, confident in her leadership as she guides the Junior School into its next chapter. Thank you, Mrs. Wildberger for taking such good care of our Junior School for the past 16 years! We shall miss you!

We then clapped out our Grade 6 students and embarked on the rest of the last day of school! Happy summer everyone!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
