Middle/Senior Spring Athletic Assembly Recap

The CDS Sports Desk returned to the stage to celebrate the achievements of our Middle and Senior School teams and athletes at the Spring Term Athletic Assembly. Individual team awards, major athletic recognitions, and CISAA plaques were presented with sports commentary provided by our GY anchors Scott Muxlow, Sienna Dell’Elce and Diamante Sabuneti.

In her closing remarks, CDS Athletic Director Ms. Winterink spoke about the value of playing sports.
"Sport teaches you how to work hard even when nobody is watching. It teaches time management when you are balancing practices, games, assignments, and tests all at once. It teaches resilience when things do not go your way. It teaches leadership, communication, accountability, and how to work with people who may think differently than you do ... These skills are not just important in athletics. These are the exact same skills that lead to success later in life."

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
