CDS Terry Fox Run: Honoured Terry and Loved Ones
Last Friday, The Country Day School held its 35th run for Terry Fox, in which the entire school participated. Students, faculty, and staff ran and walked throughout the school’s extensive trail system. The Junior School ran and walked a shorter loop for 42 minutes, while the Middle/Senior School students tackled a longer loop that included various obstacles to navigate, such as tires, hay bales, a balance beam, water blasters, and an army crawl under a net. The run was followed by fun House competition events on Hawksworth Field. The CDS mascot, Storm the Cyclone, cheered our students on every step of the way.
In anticipation of the run, the Junior School talked about Terry’s Marathon of Hope in their weekly assembly. On Friday, students and faculty wore stickers honouring the people to whom they dedicated their run. Mr. Bartle also ran a Grade 6 House game following the run, while JS students cheered on their Houses.
The Middle/Senior School Terry Fox Assembly featured a guest speaker, Andrew Mizzoni, the cousin of Sienna ’27 and Sophia ‘29, who spoke to the students about his battle with childhood cancer. Now a cancer survivor, philanthropist, best-selling author, and entrepreneur, Andrew was first diagnosed with cancer when he was just nine years old, and he has overcome the illness twice. He bravely accepted his treatments, surgeries, and the loss of his left eye with wisdom and maturity beyond his years. He fought hard and successfully returned to the ice to play his beloved sport of hockey.
To date, Andrew’s foundation, the Andrew Mizzoni Cancer Research Fund, has raised approximately $600,000 to support pediatric cancer research at The Hospital for Sick Children.
Thank you, Andrew, for sharing your story and your journey as a childhood cancer survivor, and for delivering a moving message about courage, resilience, and the power to keep going. Once again, CDS proudly ran and walked for Terry and ALL our loved ones who have been affected by cancer.

Land Acknowledgment
The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
