U13 Boys Soccer Final Results & Six More Teams Competing Tomorrow!

By Geneva Winterink
The U13 Boys Soccer team hosted the Final Four tournament this past Tuesday and what a day of soccer it was!

The team faced Sterling Hall (SH) in an incredibly exciting semifinal, with the competition remaining close throughout the entire game. Sterling Hall took a 4–2 lead, but the Cyclones were relentless and continued to push forward. With approximately five minutes remaining, CDS found the back of the net to make it 4–3.
As the clock wound down, CDS broke out of their end and earned a corner kick with just seconds remaining before the final whistle. With one last opportunity, the team sent every player into the box, including goalkeeper Jackson Bruzio. The ball was played into the danger area, took a deflection, and somehow found its way to Jackson, who buried it in the back of the net to tie the game!

This is the kind of moment you only see on highlight reels and in the movies! What a finish!

The game headed into overtime, but neither team could find a winner, sending the semifinal to penalty kicks. CDS came out on top, winning the shootout 4–1, with Jackson making two incredible saves. What a performance!

The Cyclones advanced to the finals to face a very strong BVG team. CDS came out flying and scored the opening goal, but unfortunately couldn't maintain the pace and fell to BVG in the final. Despite the loss, the boys earned themselves a silver medal and should be incredibly proud of their performance.

Congratulations to the entire team on an amazing season! It has been fantastic to see the growth of this group and the way they competed throughout the year.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
