Bryn Davies ’04 attended CDS from 1995 to 2004 and went on to graduate from Queen’s University in 2008 with Bachelor of Applied Science (Chemical Engineering). From there he pursued a Masters in Management from the University of Sydney. Bryn returned to Canada to start his career working at a large-scale solar construction and development company for seven years before moving to Prince Edward County in 2017 to join Parsons Brewing Company. Having discovered his true passion, Bryn took the plunge in 2018 and started Black Bellows Brewing Company in Collingwood.

Black Bellows Brewing Company

The corner that Black Bellows Brewing Company now sits on has long been a part of local history. For more than 140 years it was the home of a four-generation family business that evolved as local needs changed. The first building was built in the late 1800’s on Ste. Marie Street and provided blacksmithing services to the adjacent marine industries and general blacksmithing services to the neighbourhood. As times changed, the corner blacksmith transitioned to a carriage-making shop and later began to fix and repair the new horseless carriages as an auto body shop. Over the generations, countless individuals have stood on this corner of Simcoe and Ste. Marie Street, forging ahead to make a go of their business.

Black Bellows was born out of our vision of this place. Inspired by these buildings, the property and its local history, we started brewing Black Bellows. In 2018 it all happened, we started the process of restoring the building and opening a space that brings together beer, food and art. Like the blacksmiths, carriage makers, mechanics, and body shop craftspeople of the past, we infuse the spirit of relentless invention into everything we do here at Black Bellows. It's why we support imagination in our community. It’s why we embrace a no-rules approach to brewing. It’s why our brewpub is a place where the old is transformed into the fantastically new.
