Award-Winning Jazz Musicians Grace the Stage at CDS Tuesday

Tuesday evening’s musical performance by internationally renowned trumpet player Jens Lindemann was absolutely out of this world! What a treat to have such high-calibre musicians in the building performing for our students and local community. We would like to extend a very special thanks to the Karch family for making this event possible.
As the first classical brass soloist to ever receive the Order of Canada, Jens Lindemann is hailed as one of the most celebrated artists in his instrument’s history and was recently named “International Brass Personality of the Year” (Brass Herald). Those in attendance were not only treated to this extraordinary entertainer, but Jens invited three friends to join him for an unrehearsed jam session aka epic collaboration, including:

Robi Botos - JUNO Award-winning Hungarian-Canadian pianist and The Royal Conservatory of Music's inaugural Jazz Artist in Residence.

Mike Downes - Canadian bassist, composer, arranger, educator and multiple JUNO Award winner who has performed worldwide and recorded extensively as a side musician and leader.

Ernesto Cervini - JUNO Award winning drummer, composer and bandleader and an influential presence on Canada’s modern jazz scene and beyond.

Prior to the concert, Jens led a masterclass with our Middle and Senior School Concert Band students. He shared meaningful insight on musical elements such as breathing and practice techniques, as well as the importance of music in our communities.

The concert set list featured music by Oscar Peterson, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Chaplin, and more. Thank you Jens Lindemann and friends for a positively magical evening of music at CDS!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
