Athlete of the Week - Victor Mete

The King Weekly Sentinel's Athlete of the Week is hockey player and CDS Grade 9 student Victor Mete.
Victor has been at CDS since Grade 2 and lives in Woodbridge with his parents and older sister, Julia '13. Victor is the embodiment of a rising star - he eats, breathes, and sleeps hockey. His parents put him into the sport at the age of six and he's been playing ever since.

At CDS he plays defense for the U14 Hockey Team, but has no time for other sports because he also plays outside of school for the Jr. Canadiens AAA hockey team, in addition to playing in tournaments. Victor plays hockey six days a week and always plays his best, because - as he says - there are always scouts watching  - and he's got ambitions. "If I play my best every game, I may end up having a job in this sport." Hopefully one day we'll cheer him on as he plays in the OHL - and maybe even the NHL.

Hockey has given Victor the opportunity to travel, bringing him to Germany, Italy and the Czech Republic this year alone. He has also played in Finland, Latvia, Estonia, Sweden and Russia. He was recently named MVP for a game in the Toronto Red Wings Early Bird Tournament.

Congratulations Victor!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
