Phillip Moorlag

Senior School Math & Computer Science Teacher
How do you continue learning in your life? What is your professional passion?
Each day I come to teach at CDS, I feel I learn something new. Whether it's discovering a new technological assessment tool or adopting new strategies to meet the needs of each individual learner. PD conferences, books, and podcasts are excellent resources, but I feel I learn and grow the most by having those daily discussions with my colleagues in our staff workroom. Their wealth of knowledge is immeasurable.

What is one of your most memorable teaching moments?
It's hard to pick just one. Winning the Jr. Girls D1 Volleyball championship, travelling to Hong Kong, Philadelphia, and Cuba (twice) on school trips, and playing a heavy metal guitar medley at a talent show are just a few. Most memorable, however, are those small, day-to-day experiences that happen in the classroom. Smiles, laughs, and "thank you's" from the students stay with me for a long time.

Favourite thing about working at CDS:
The community. The faculty, staff, students, and parents are what makes CDS an amazing place to teach.

Something you’ve crossed off your Bucket List: Hmm. I suppose I should start a bucket list.

Outside of CDS I’m … I'm an avid music fan and concert goer. I play guitar and sing in a "Celtic-rock-folk" band and have been known to belt out a few sea shanties - long before the TikTok craze. My absolute favourite hobby, however, is singing and playing with our 2-year-old daughter.
