Rob Waldron

Director of Middle School
How do you continue learning in your life? What is your professional passion?
English and books have always held my heart. For myself the book, whether individual or as part of a group, has always been a great way to disrupt my thinking around teaching, learning and leading in the classroom.

What is one of your most memorable teaching moments?
I feel so very fortunate to spend my days with students and colleagues who truly are exceptional in so many ways. In school, children need a sense of belonging to be engaged and productive learners. They need to be connected to their fellow students, connected to their teachers, to also be affirmed in who they are in a way that is positive and accepting. It is an incredibly privileged position to be in each and every day.

Favourite Thing about Working at CDS:
The students in front of me. Every decision I make I think about what is best for them. I care that every student knows what they have as gifts, and it is my job as the educator to help them figure out what those gifts are. Community is at the heart of who we are and that is built upon nurturing and fostering trusting relationships. The research tells us that students who experience a sense of belonging at school are more eager to engage in school life and are more willing to learn alongside their peers.

What is one of your life goals?
I still dream of walking out onto the White Hart Lane field wearing the #5 jersey for my beloved Tottenham Hotspurs.

Outside of CDS I’m … (complete the sentence):
A father, husband, brother, brother-in-law, cousin, grandson and uncle. “Family is the compass that guides us.”

Hometown:
I was born in Swindon, England which is a town that dates back to 1086 as recorded in the Domesday Book. The town I feel most connected with is Paignton, England which is a small seaside town on the south-west coast of England. It’s a popular UK holiday destination known as the English Riviera.

Also Known As (i.e. Nickname or other role you have):
Affectionately “Waldo” by those students I have the opportunity to coach on the soccer field.
