Mrs. Melanie Sheppard

Director of Finance
Melanie Sheppard arrived at CDS in 2001 to serve as the School's Controller where her primary responsibilities were managing the Business Office and financial reporting.
Over the years her role has greatly expanded and as Director she is responsible for: finance, facilities, information technology infrastructure, health and safety, and the General Store. She shares the responsibility of human resources with the Head and the Assistant Head of School. Ms. Sheppard is a Chartered Professional Accountant and has a Master of Accounting and a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo. Her interest in small business started at an early age working in her family’s business. Her professional career began in public accounting with a particular focus on not-for-profit organizations and small business. Bringing finance expertise to CDS enables the Administration to focus on carrying out the School’s vision and she finds this very rewarding. Mrs. Sheppard is inspired working alongside passionate educators and she feels fortunate to work in an industry where not only are there plenty of success stories, they are right outside her office door! She is also inspired by the dedication shown by the volunteer Board of Directors and the amazing CDS parent community.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
