History Teachers Prepare for WWI Trench Experience

The Grade 10 Canadian History teachers are preparing for this year's World War I trench experience! Mr. Downer, Mr. Dermody, Ms. Moonan and Mr. Young spent Wednesday morning mapping out this year's trench location and planning activities to simulate going "over the top" to attack No Man's Land. Not pictured is Mr. De Sanctis, who was teaching at the time, but who is also preparing his class for the excursion.
Students will be participating in the trench experience next week (October 25th-28th). It will be held on The Country Day's property over the span of two History lessons. They should start to gather warm, waterproof clothing and boots in preparation for all weather circumstances. More details will be shared in class.

A special thanks to Mr. Downer, who has led the charge in organizing this enriching opportunity, and to the Facilities Team for helping to arrange supplies.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
