CDS Breaks Ground

The Welcome Back BBQ had a celebratory theme to it yesterday with a look toward the future of The Country Day School. This year the annual event incorporated shiny new shovels and confetti to honour the ceremonial groundbreaking for the much anticipated Dining Hall and revitalized Senior School.
Head of School - John Liggett, Board Chair - Dimitris Polygenis, Student Council President – Joey Stipec, and CDS Founder - Edmond G. Eberts were joined on the platform by Campaign Committee Chair and Co-Chair Advancement Committee - Gus Arrigo, Sonya ’15 and Dina ’17 Arrigo (representing the Arrigo/Niczowski family), Co-Chair Advancement Committee - Molly Fitzpatrick, as well as Stephanie Temovsky ’21 (representing the Niczowski/Temovsky Family), Paige Ofield ’16 (representing the Ofield family) and President of the CDS Association - Melissa Yang.

After remarks by the Head of School, Board Chair and Student Council President, Student Council members presented the platform party with shovels to officially break ground on this historic project.  Cheers rang out and confetti flew as more than 1,200 students, parents, faculty and staff celebrated what is yet to come.

Keeping in mind Gus Arrigo’s words, “It’s for the kids – it’s for the students,” we look forward to watching the construction progress as we strive toward attaining our goal of $10M for the project.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone who has helped CDS achieve this groundbreaking milestone. If you were not able to attend the event, please take a moment to watch our recap video.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
