CBC Radio Personality Turned Author Visits CDS

Award-winning author, illustrator, and former CBC sports broadcaster, Kevin Sylvester, gave an entertaining and informative presentation yesterday to the Grade 2, 3, 4 and 5 students in the Junior School Library. The author of the Neil Flambé capers, the MINRS series, and other assorted sports books for children, Kevin has combined his love of illustrating with writing and finds great pleasure in sharing his love for storytelling.

He inspired the students to believe in their ability to become artists with a few drawing tips, and he shared the inspiration for his stories, as well as the secrets to being a successful writer. The icing on the cake was that his sense of humour was wonderfully contagious; he taught the students to use the humour found in everyday life in their writing. Laughter filled the room as the audience hung on his every word.

The students left the presentation filled with ideas for their next art piece and the next story they will write, and … they cannot wait to get their hands on the latest book by Kevin Sylvester!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
