Best Showing Ever for CDS @ IISPSC
Last weekend, three students: Maeve Tebbutt (11), Anna Croxon (10) and Anaïs Leiva von Bovet (11) travelled to Winnipeg to compete in this year’s International Independent Schools' Public Speaking Competition co-hosted by Balmoral Hall School and The Gray Academy of Jewish Education. More than 140 students from 10 countries competed in their choice of three events.
For the fifth year in a row, The Country Day School won the overall individual top speaker award. In her first ever Public Speaking competition, Anaïs Leiva von Bovet wowed judges in Persuasive Speaking, Radio Newscast and Dramatic Interpretation to become the tournament champion. Anaïs has qualified to compete as part of Team Canada at the Worlds being held in Cape Town, South Africa in April 2018!
Not far behind, finishing 4th overall, was Anna Croxon. An experienced junior speaker and debater, Anna demonstrated her ability to be highly successful at the senior level. Not only was she the third placed student under 16, she also placed 2nd in the Dramatic Interpretation category.
Maeve Tebbutt also had an outstanding tournament, making all three finals. She was the Impromptu Speaking Champion for this event and finished 6th overall. Maeve and Anna have qualified to head to the Canadian Nationals to be held in Winnipeg in February. From there, they will also try to qualify for Worlds.
With three students in the Top 6, this meant that CDS also captured the trophies for the Top Overall Team and Top Canadian Team.
Congratulations to all three students on an amazing achievement. It represents the best showing ever at this event by CDS!
Land Acknowledgment
The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates.
