King Mayor’s Celebration of the Youth Arts

“The ASK student art show is a fantastic opportunity for our students to publicly exhibit their work,” said Heather Castellan, CDS Head of the Visual Arts. “As artists, having the ability and willingness of a gallery to showcase our work helps us to connect with the larger community outside our doors.”
The following students submitted their pieces to the six-week long show:

Colleen Glynn, Grade 12 "Odalisque in Colour" Arylic on Canvas & "Snow Day in January" Painting
Vanessa Chychrun, Grade 12 "Imagination is More Important than Knowledge" Acrylic on Canvas

“For the graduating students, it gives them something to strive for in the creation of their work, as well as an opportunity to discuss their experiences with prospective post-secondary institutions. As well, it provides the graduates with an opportunity to witness and see how a gallery show comes together in preparation for their GradX show in May.”

The 15 pieces that were selected from the CDS art classes offer a representative window into what our Senior School students’ capabilities really are. If you haven’t already done so, we encourage you to stop by the King Township Municipal Centre located at 2585 King Road, just east of Jane Street, to see this exhibit over the coming weeks. They are open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
