CDS Remembers John Mollard

It is with great sadness that we share news that Dr. John Mollard, former CDS parent and Board Chair from 1988-1990 (having served on the Board from 1984-90), passed away peacefully on December 25, 2020 surrounded by his family. John and his wife Jane's four children, Peter, Andrew, Megan and Chloe, all attended CDS.
A veterinarian by day, having run a successful 44-year practice in Richmond Hill, John and Jane, who was also very involved with the Parent Association, were deeply connected to CDS. In addition to serving on the Board, John co-chaired the CDS Auction Committee with Peter Welsh for eight years in the 1980s.

When recounting memories of the Auction, John remarked “I’ve never had more fun with better people in my life. If you got involved in the Auction, you really found out what was going on, and you really worked for it. I never walked out of my clinic for anything other than The Country Day School. We’d work until 11 at night preparing.”

The Mollard family are in our thoughts and prayers and CDS flags will fly at half staff for the next two days in his honour. John’s obituary can be found here.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
