Grade 4 Student Earns Perfect Score in Global Math Contest

Last week, Grade 4 student Shawn Dai received the exciting news that he earned a perfect score in the Caribou Mathematics Competition! This worldwide online contest takes place in November, January, February, April and May. Six contests are offered each time, one for each of the grade levels 2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, 9/10 and 11/12 and each one in English, French, Persian and Mandarin.
A number of our Grade 6 students have participated in these contests in the past, including Kaitlyn Zhang '26 who tied for first place with a perfect score of 18/18 in 2020. This is the first year a CDS Grade 4 student has earned a perfect score.

Many private and international schools take part in this competition and participating countries include China, Iran, Canada, the United States, Turkey, Russia, Dominican Republic, Uganda and Germany, to name just a few.

Ms. Birtwhistle celebrated this exciting news with her deserving, yet humble student. Shawn had this to say about his win: “I think the key to my success is to keep studying and gradually you get better and better. Thanks to my Mom who bought me all my workbooks. I feel really happy about my win!”

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
