Three CDS Debaters Qualify for Worlds

The 2023 National Public Speaking Championships took place at St. John's-Ravenscourt School in Winnipeg last weekend. Sarah Croxon ‘24 and Diviya Amarnath ‘25 competed in this tournament after qualifying at the 2022 Ontario Qualifiers in early December.
Both students participated in four different events including Impromptu Speaking, Debate, Persuasive Speaking, and Interpretive Reading. Sarah placed 14th overall and is the 2023 National Persuasive Speaking Champion, and Diviya came in among the top 30 students overall. Congratulations to both competitors!

Millie Steinmann '25, Sarah, and Diviya will all be competing in the 2023 World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships in Durban, South Africa in March.

This will be the 16th consecutive year that CDS has qualified and sent students to the World Championships, and only the second time we have qualified three students. In 2019, Anna Croxon '20, Anaïs Leiva von Bovet '19 and Maeve Tebbutt '19 all competed, and Anna was the WIDSPC Champion!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
